How To Use Phone as Webcam [Android/iPhone]
Webcam stands for a void wide web camera. The world’s 1st webcam was invented by doctor Quentin Stafford Fraser. A web camera is a small camera that connects to a computer or is inbuilt into a laptop. It is used for video chats online. It is different from our digital camera, which is portable and runs on Batteries an has a slot for the memory card to save pictures and videos. Webcam can be connected to a computer through USB or FireWire port.
Nowadays, when the whole world it’s confined to their houses and cannot step out for jobs “work from home” and online classes have become a part of our lives. Not every person has an inbuilt webcam in their laptops or computers so they can turn their Smartphone cameras into webcams.
3 Ways on How To Use Phone as Webcam (Wireless and via USB):
1. Using Android Phone as Webcam using Wi-Fi
To use your phone as a webcam you need the right Android app and client software for your Windows PC. There are many such apps available on the play store such as Droid Cam, iV cam, IP webcam, and live Droid, etc.
Here I’ll be using IP webcam.
Note: To use its microphone one has to pay $20.
- Download IP camera adapter on your Windows PC and IP webcam App on your Android smartphones.

Once installed The PC and Android devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Launch the IP webcam on your device and a list of options and quality settings is presented.

Change the configuration on the resolution, quality, frames per second, orientation, option to use android’s front-facing camera.

Set a username and password for a secure connection.

Now Scroll down and select start-server to start video stream.

On the computer open the IP camera adapter and enter the IP and port number from your Android device.

Enter login ID and password and click auto-detect to match what the camera is sending. Click OK and now your webcam is ready to use.

When you use any other app such as Skype, Zoom, Or Google Classroom set your Android as a source.

Go to settings and choose Option video settings and it starts. Plugin your charger as it drains the phone battery.
2. Using Phone as Webcam using USB
Rather than using Wi-Fi to turn your phone into a webcam, we can even use the USB as it has a stable connection.
Note: Droid cam can be used on Android 5.O and higher.
- On Android devices or iPhone download Droid Cam from play store or App Store.

Install its client application On your PC.

On your phone click settings and set up your phone in Debugging mode (setting >application >development >USB debugging).

Then connect the phone to PC via USB.

Open the Droid Cam on your Android and it shows server message.

Start the Droid Cam client on your PC and choose the USB option.

Droid Cam will now open the camera on your phone and use it as a webcam on your PC.

Configure the video settings of your video call.
3. Using an iPhone or iPad as a Webcam
Epoc Cam uses iOS 10.3 and higher and supports both android and PC.
Note: You have to pay $8 to use its microphone.
- Download and install the Epoc Cam App on your iPhone or IPad from App Store and download Epoc Cam drivers on your Windows PC.

After installing restart your PC to Load drivers appropriately.

Open the app on Your iPhone Or iPad and allow you to access your iPhone’s or iPad’s camera.

Epoc Cam starts searching for Windows 10 PC.

Open the Epoc Cam viewer on your PC from the epoch Cam driver installed previously. The epoch Cam viewers show the video From your iPhone or iPad and it starts working.

Now you can use the phone’s camera as a Webcam for video conferencing.
