How to use Google Classroom [Beginners Complete Guide]
Google always helps us by providing almost every type of services like Docs, Hangouts, Home, Calendar Sheets, Slides, meet, maps, etc., And for the students also, Google didn’t step back. Especially for students and teachers, Google has brought new software: Google classroom.
Google Classroom is an open free service by Google, designed for educators and learners with the aim of creating a medium to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments along with providing other few more features. It helps in sharing the files between teachers and students easily and also provides a medium for better communication between students and teachers. Along with that, it also helps in keeping the study material safe and in an organised manner. Teachers can easily provide study materials, quizzes, assignments to the students.
Let’s see How to use Google Classroom:
1. Getting started
For using it on your Windows/Mac OS, go to their official website classroom.google.com. You can also find it in your google tab or can be added in the shortcuts below the google search bar.
Also, the application can be downloaded from Playstore (on your android device) or Appstore (on your iPhone). This app is 13.02MB in size.
When you open this application/website you will see that the interface is user friendly and it is mainly designed for students & teachers.
2. Sign in
If you are logged in to your google account on the website then it will ask you to sign in with the same account. Same for the app, when you open your app for the first time, it will ask you to sign in with your Google account.
3. Features
There are many astonishing features of Google classroom like: –
- Archive course
- Assignments
- Grading
- Communication
- Originality Report
4. Join Class
Log in with your student account. You will see your classes on the screen.
To join a class, just click on the “+” button present on the top right corner of the screen.
And then, enter the class code which you have been given by the teacher (You can also get an invite link in your email id shared by your teacher).
Click join in the bottom right of the dialogue box. By doing so, you will enter your online class.
5. Create a Class
Log in with your teacher’s account. You will see your classes on the screen.
To create a class just click on the “+” button present on the top right corner of the screen.
Enter the Class name, Section, Subject, and room.
Click Create in the bottom right of the dialogue box to create a class.
6. Customize your class
You can also easily customize your class just how you want.
If you want to change the class banner, you can do it from the option present at the top of your screen by uploading a photo or by selecting a pre-loaded theme, select an option from the options that are present on the bottom right of the banner.
Click on the three lines at the top left of the screen and then click on classes. Then select the class that you want to edit. You can easily edit or archive your class by clicking on the three dots and select edit or archive.

7. Add students
To add students to your class, open your class. Find the class code in the top right of the class banner. Click on the square next to the code, the code will be displayed. Copy and share the code with your students
You can also change your class code very easily.
Go to the top right corner of the screen. Click on the settings icon. Scroll down to the General section and select class code. Click on the class code and here you can Display, Copy, reset or disable the code.
8. Add teacher
If you want to collaborate your class with another teacher, just go to the people tab on the top of the screen.
Click on the add button on the right and select the person’s name or email-Id, an invite will be sent to that person.
Note: You can also invite the students by using the same process.
9. Invite guardian
You can also invite the student’s guardian by going to the people’s tab.
Select “students”. You can see the option of “invite guardian” on the right side of the student’s name. And also, you can email all guardians by clicking all the options.
If you right-click on the three dots against the student’s name, you can also email students.
10. Share files
If you are a teacher then you can share files with your students by clicking on “Stream” and then click on “Share something with your classes…”
You can also “create and schedule appointments”
“Respond to students posts”, by clicking on these two options in the “communicate with your class” section.
11. Create Assignment
To create assignments for your students, go to the classwork tab. Click on “Create”. Here you can create Assignment, Quiz assignment, questions, materials, reuse post, and topics. Select Assignment and enter details.
Note: – You can also share Google drive, Link, File, and YouTube links.
